Shoulder season is the best time to travel to the Amalfi Coast on a budget. When is shoulder season? There are actually two. April to June and September to October. You will still get great weather but without the crowds and with more options for accommodations. It’s a win-win, no crowds and cheaper pricing.
Accommodation and Transportation:
- SITA Buses: The SITA bus system is the primary form of public transportation along the Amalfi Coast. With connections to all the coastal towns, riding the buses is a great option. Amalfi, Positano, Ravello, and Sorrento are among these stops. It’s an economical way to travel and allows you to relax and enjoy the stunning scenery without worrying about driving. Be aware that buses can get crowded during peak tourist seasons, so plan your schedule accordingly.
- Regional Trains: If you’re exploring beyond the immediate Amalfi Coast and venturing to nearby regions like Pompeii or Naples, you can use regional trains. These are called Circumvesuviana. These trains are local and make stops in Sorrento to Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Naples, offering an economical way to visit these historic sites.
- Ferries and Boats: The Amalfi Coast is also well-connected by ferries and boats, which provide both transportation and scenic views. This is especially useful when you want to hop between coastal towns or visit the islands like Capri. While ferries can be more expensive than buses, they offer a unique experience.
